[edit] PP Transducers
- converts some PP measure (e.g. hand skin salience, facial muscle contractions, blood pressure) to an electrical analog (popular transducers are electrodes, blood pressure gauge)
- serves as input data to Biopac MP150
[edit] Biopac MP150
- takes the signals collected by the PP transducers as inputs, amplifies them, places some signal filters (optional), and converts them to digital signals
- takes the experiment markers from the Computer as inputs, effectively synchronizing them to the PP data
- sends both PP data and markers to the Computer (connected via regular RJ-45 network cable)
[edit] Testing Computer
- runs the experiment (in E-Prime) seen by the participant
- sends experiment markers to the Biopac machine (connected via parallel cable)*
- stores the PP data and experiment markers sent to it by the Biopac machine
* Markers sent via the parallel port (has a wide plug; used for old printers) are recorded as 8 binary channels that combine to form a number between 0 to 255 (2^8 - 1). That is, you can define 255 different marker types (sending a marker of value 0 is meaningless).
