Interaction between cognition and emotion
My early research goals were identifying specific brain regions associated with specific functions. Research of functional localization provides important clues to understand the nature of the central nervous system, however, they are insufficient to explain complicated brain functions such as interactions between cognition and emotion.
My current work focuses on exploration of the primitive oral origins of moral disgust, which will be revealed by fMRI. As the human brain is not designed, but rather, originated as a primitive response system which has evolved by adding new functions and adapting old ones, my further research goal is to reveal this "adaptive strategy" of the central nervous system.
